2008 NACE Eastern Area Conference
Attendees: Ted Huck and Laura Bauer
Date: October 20-23, 2008
Details: MATCOR’s Ted Huck and Laura Bauer attended the 2008 NACE Eastern Area Conference held in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Bauer spoke during the Atmospheric Coatings session and her techincal discussion, “A 25-Year Experience Conductive Coating Cathodic Protection for Concrete Structures “, examined the coastal region of Florida, since it has the highest concrete corrosion risk of any area in the United States. Condos along the Florida coast with concrete balconies face serious risks of corrosion due to the chlorides from the seawater and the salty air. Bauer described the corrosion process and explained to attendees how cathodic protection works versus conventional repair, citing numerous case studies that MATCOR has been involved with over the years.
As a part of the conference schedule, attendees were invited to tour the NASA facility. Below are pictures from Bauer’s tour of NASA:
Home to the U.S. Space Shuttle Discovery, the NASA Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., is where orbiters are assembled before launch. MATCOR’s CPBD-III conductive coating cathodic protection system is installed in the roof of the 589 foot high building that protects Discovery.
