In a DCVG survey, a direct current (DC) signal is applied to the pipeline, and the voltage gradient in the soil above the pipeline is measured. Voltage gradients, measured between two calibrated reference electrodes spaced apart, arise as a result of current pickup or discharge at pipeline coating holiday locations.
DCVG is known to be more precise in detecting coating holidays than other methods, such as the Pipeline Current Mapper. It’s also the only method available that can help approximate the size of a pipeline coating holiday.
Qualified MATCOR technical personnel conduct DCVG surveys in the field on oil, gas, and water pipelines. Data is then analyzed by AMPP-NACE certified experts.
